RESEARCH OR INNOVATION

    • Category: Research or Innovation (Video)

    • Deadline: 20th August

    • Award: £250 for each category winner

    • Submit to: bridges@elht.nhs.uk

    • HPB

    • UGI

    • Colorectal

    • General Surgery

    • Emergency Surgery

    • Clearly state if your submission is for:

      • Research OR

      • Innovation (Video)

    • Maximum 250 words

    • Research abstracts:

      • Open to all NHS staff

    • Innovation abstracts:

      • Open to all NHS staff

      • Must NOT include research

      • Encouraged formats:

        • Short video presentations

        • “How I do things…” style

    • If submitting a video, include the video attachment

  • 6-minute PowerPoint presentation

    • May include embedded and annotated video

    • 3-minute Q&A session

  • Please structure your abstract using:

    • Background

    • Methods

    • Results

    • Conclusion

    • Best Research Presentation: £250

    • Best Video Presentation: £250

SURGICAL SANDPIT

    • Deadline: 20th August

    • Award: £20,000

    • Submit to: bridges@elht.nhs.uk

    • Project must involve the Lancashire and South Cumbria (LSC) population

    • Must have a Project Lead or Co-Lead employed within an NHS organisation in LSC

    • Must have access to:

      • Administrative support

      • Research resources and facilities

      • Capability to deliver the project prior to release of funds

    • Must demonstrate originality, including:

      • Addressing an urgent or emerging health need

      • Clear patient benefit

      • Use of new technology or a novel concept requiring further validation

    • Must be:

      • Surgical in nature, OR

      • Impact patients undergoing cancer surgery

    • Must include:

      • Patient and public involvement (PPIE)

      • Consideration of health equity throughout the project designIdeas related to Surgery within:

    • HPB

    • UGI

    • Colorectal

    • General Surgery

    • Emergency Surgery

    • Project must be completed within 2 years

    • Must present annual interim findings at subsequent SILASC conferences

  • If total project cost exceeds £20,000:

    • Applicants must provide evidence of additional funding sources

    • Include a lay summary (max. 350 words)

    • Submit a draft proposal (max. 1000 words)
      (excluding headings and references)

    • Use the following structure:

      • Introduction

      • Hypothesis

      • Scientific Basis

      • Aims

      • Methodology

      • References

  • Funding will only be released upon:

    • Approval from a Research Ethics Committee (REC)

    • Health Research Authority (HRA) approval

    • Submission of a brief costings analysis outlining fund allocation
