Mr Daren A Subar, Director General & HPB Consultant. Research & Development Lead for General Surgery. Clinical Director for Cancer Services

Mr Subar is an advanced laparoscopic HPB surgeon. His research interests include investigating outcomes in liver and pancreatic surgery. He is the principal investigator for a number of local and regional HPB research studies.

Mr Louis Vitone, Trainee/Research Fellow Liaison Officer Clinical Governance Lead
Advanced Laparoscopic General & Colorectal Surgeon

Mr Vitone has undergone extensive training across the Northwest and at St Marks in London. His surgical expertise include colorectal cancer and complex benign ano-rectal conditions. His research interests include investigating clinical outcomes in colorectal cancer surgery.

Mr Mike Gill, Emergency General Surgery Chair Consultant Colorectal & General Surgeon

Mr Gill’s research interests include service improvement through the streamlining of diagnostic and treatment pathways. He is actively involved in surgical education and surgical pathway/process improvement.

Mr Joel Lambert, Director

Joel graduated from the University of Bristol and is completing higher surgical training in the Northwest. His interest areas include prehabilltation in cancer surgery and medical education. He is currently enrolled on an MD at Lancaster University

Mr Adnan Sheikh, Colorectal Chair
Consultant Colorectal & General Surgeon, Colorectal & Endoscopy Lead

Mr Sheikh research interests include the role of translational biology in colorectal cancer and factors affecting outcomes in colorectal cancer surgery. He is widely published in those fields and received several awards and recognitions. He has been instrumental in establishing robotic colorectal surgery at the Trust. His clinical practice also includes abdominal wall reconstruction and advanced endoscopy

Mrs Donna Shrestha, Webmaster and Junior Doctor Representative North West General Surgery Trainee

Donna graduated from the University of Sheffield and is currently a higher surgical trainee in the North West Deanery, with an interest in Colorectal Surgery. She has an interest in research and medical education, and keen to use the BRIDGES platform to promote related activities and be an advocate for junior doctors’ training at ELHT.

Mrs Asma Sultana, HPB Chair
General & HPB Consultant Surgeon. Surgical Tutor & Honorary Senior Lecturer UCLAN

Ms Sultana’s research interests are in retrospective and prospective clinical studies, clinical trials and systematic reviews/meta-analyses. She has published widely in these areas, and won prizes and awards (Hirshberg Award from the American Pancreatic Association and the International Association of Pancreatology). She is also collaborating with the University of Central Lancashire on the application of nanotechnology to Hepatopancreatobiliary cancers.

Mr Georgios Sgourakis, Basic Science and Translational Medicine Chair General & HPB Consultant Surgeon. Honorary Clinical Lecturer UCLAN

Mr Sgourakis’ research is focused on the development of molecular biomarkers for colorectal and pancreatic cancer screening and the use of augmented reality and haptic feedback in surgical training. His scholarly experience includes 110 publications in peer reviewed, indexed in Medline, journals. These publications have been cited more than 3200 times.

Sr Vicki Stevenson-Hornby, Pancreas Specialist Nurse Clinical Research Liaison Officer

Vicki has a keen research interest in quality improvement in surgical practice. Her current research area includes exploring the quality of life for patients with a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Given the well documented poor survival rates for pancreas cancer, Vicki is keen to review the existing psychological support provision not only for patients receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer but also for the families of patients who receive a pancreatic cancer diagnosis and the role which creative arts therapy can play in the provision of psychological support. Vicki has been recognised for her innovative work for pancreatic cancer patients at a National level having received Awards from the Nursing Times and also the Chief Nursing Officer from NHS England.
